• What is Jesus Christ Superstar about?

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is the story of the last week of the life of Jesus Christ as he leads his followers into Jerusalem, told through the eyes of the apostle Judas. Judas believes wholeheartedly in Jesus’ message, but he is concerned that their movement is losing its focus and that it will be seen as a threat by the growing Roman Empire.

In an attempt to address this, Judas turns to the Priests of Judea, who do feel threatened by the growing movement and convince him to help them bring an end to Jesus’ influence. Jesus hosts a last supper with his followers at the Temple, where he reveals that he knows a betrayal is coming, and then goes to pray for strength. And so begin the trials of Jesus, as he is betrayed, arrested, and left to the courts of Pilate, Herod, and the bloodthirsty mob…

    THE CHARACTERS

Jesus Christ – The leader of the apostles. He is leading a movement of compassion that preaches love and tolerance.

Judas Iscariot – Jesus’ right-hand man who becomes concerned that fame is getting in the way of their message. He makes a decision that will change the course of both their lives.

Mary Magdalene – A follower of Jesus’ movement who regularly tends to him. She finds herself grappling with her feelings and her faith.

Pontius Pilate – The Roman governor of the province of Judea. His prophetic dreams make him reluctant to prosecute Jesus.

King Herod – The flamboyant and casually cruel king of Galilee, where Jesus is from.

Caiaphas – The corrupt High Priest of Jerusalem. He feels threatened by Jesus, and encourages Judas to betray him.

Annas – Another priest of Jerusalem; Caiaphas convinces him that Jesus is a threat.
